Now, if i MUST be so blunt to explain to those who STILL don't understand. This baby is Adolf Hitler. And when i read it in the library, i had goosebumps all over myself. i went to check the library books and sure enough, there it was, recorded that Adolf Hitler is the fourth child of Alois and Klara Hitler, the only child to survive past 2 years old. (from 'the life and death of Hitler' by James.... sth XD)

so yeah, after the eerie story by roald dahl, let's talk about... the magician's guild!
i stayed up till 4 AM to complete the story, and i must say... i hate the ending. because it wasn't a happy ending. and when i read it i almost cried =3 this has been one of the few books that has caught my attention and emotions so skillfully, using the least amount of writing skills possible.
well, for one, trudi canavan doesn't have flowery language. while she uses some fanciful words, it's not something i'd expected to be of depth. and really... the story isn't in depth like harry potter or *shudder* the lord of the rings. but yet trudi canavan managed to twist and turn my heart in different phases of emotions... from true sympathy to humour to (even) boredom to excitement.
the thing about trilogies, or (for that matter) any books that lasts for more than 1 book, the reader tends to grow a personal relationship with the character and as the story progresses, you feel for the protagonists etc. i didn't feel 'buddy buddy' with the characters in this story like how i felt when i read the manga "Samurai Deeper Kyo", but the author did catch me in pleasant surprise.
i'm trying my very best to be as subtle as i can so i don't spoil the story. anyway, usually... when i read a story, my impression of the character doesn't vary much in the course of the book. like when i read Harry Potter, i didn't like Harry, and it remained that way through. similarly, i liked sirius the minute it was revealed that he was a good guy, and i was sooooo upset he died =\ (i'm assuming EVERYONE here knows what happened okay?? XD)
but in 'the magician's guild' all the way to 'the high lord', my emotions for people like Sonea, Cery and most of all, Akkarin, changed turbulently! yeah, at first i really hated Akkarin to the guts, and when the story ended, i'm soooo swooning over Akkarin XD
*sigh* but i didn't like the ending. it really shouldn't have ended it that way. when you put too much pain in the protagonist's life, you gotta make the ending happy, but that would also be a little impractical. so well... you be the judge.
maybe one of the reasons why i felt so much for this trilogy was because i feel that trudi canavan's writing style is very similar to mine, or rather, my writing style is similar to hers. she doesn't describe A LOT (unlike J.K Rowling). she alternates between 'subtle comments for readers to analyse', and 'straight to the point facts that shock readers'. and well, of course her writing is better than mine, or else why am i the one at fanfiction, and she's publishing books? XD but when i read her story, i feel so comfortable with it. =) so yeah, i'll start to see what are the good things i can get from her to improve my writing =)
okay okay it's one dry and boring entry. shan't bore you further. but don't you just love reading and thinking about all these things after that?? =3 *ahem* anyway, to all mothers, happy mothers' day! thank God for your constant nagging and your ever so sharp 'sixth sense' =))
